Talk Nerdy To Me 3 Fan Fiction Convention Friday May 13th 2016 At Harris Museum Preston

May, 5 2016

~We’ve all at some point in our lives been a member of a fan club and it was no doubt an interest that was maintained in a safe and balanced way.

As a child I was a member of the Beano club, had full membership and subscribed to the comic on a weekly basis.

As I got older I became more interested in the current wave of new and interesting bands, especially during the Britpop era circa 1994-1996 and was keenly immersed in the weekly music magazine The N.M.E ( New Musical Express ) I also became a fan of Q which came out monthly and was slightly more in-depth than the weekly musical intake of N.M.E.

Now in 2016 and at 35 I rarely collect anything and am not subscribed to a  comic fan base. Although I do like watching superhero films but as mentioned at the outset, in a safe and balanced way.

If though you  take your interest to the extreme and could be classed as a nerd, geek or boffin by  your peers you may prefer to be
around like minded people who share your common interest in your fanaticism whether it be from Doctor Who to Rocky Horror or Star Wars to Superheroes.

On Friday 13th May from 5pm till 10pm at Preston’s Harris Library, Museum and Art Gallery you’ll be given that opportunity. ‘Talk Nerdy to Me 3’ is billed as exclusive exploration down your favourite TV shows, movies, comics, books and so forth.

This year's event will have a horror theme and provides an opportunity to indulge existing passions, while also trying new ones. The Rocky Horror show will be screened to add to the horror theme, with the props and subtitles supplied so that everyone can join in; drone flying, and talks by experts from UCLAN.

Circus of Horrors is also expected as is a fan fiction competition. Lancashire County Council’s head of libraries, museums, culture and registrar’s service, Julie Bell speaks ahead of next Friday’s convention and the interest she hopes to gain,

"The annual nerdycon is a great North West event and will showcase local experts and speakers. Last year's event was a great success and attracted around 500 visitors. We're hoping that this year's convention with a horror theme will prove to be as popular.”

Staff at the Harris Library, Museum and Art Gallery are expected to run the event as well as Youth Forum ‘Hijack  the Library’ -- a small group of committed people with a passion to involve more young people with libraries, and make them a venue accessible to everyone.

Booking isn't required.
