Back in the late 19 century this now established building was once known as Clitheroe Public Hall and has since become a Grade 2 listed building. Having been converted to the Grand cinema in 1921 and owned by Walter Cullen right up to his death in 1963, ownership was passed on to Clitheroe Town and later, Ribble Valley Council. During this period it was still managed by the Cullen family.

It faced a difficult time until The Lancaster Foundation, a Clitheroe based charitable organisation, purchased the building in 2005 before undertaking an ambitious redevelopment of the premises.

This ambitious redevelopment came from the artistic flair of local architect Andy Ashworth – my Dad. The overall look and design was once a drawing that came to life thanks to the imaginative force of my Dad.

Since opening its doors early in 2008, The Grand has gradually become one of the North West’s best loved mid-sized live music and arts venues. It has state of the art recording studios, a bar and a performance stage for musicians.
