Even at a very young age the following entrepreneur had music in his blood and was inevitable he would form a pathway in this career as he became an adult.
At just 12 years young British born Mark Ronson was a self-described music nerd and was determined Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner would accept him as an internship at the magazine.
As he became a young man he studied at New York University and he became known in the district as the resident DJ on the local club scene in the early 1990s. He mixed records with a diverse, genre –spanning selection as he admitted – ‘I’ve always loved everything. I’ve never had any kind of genre boundaries.
It wasn’t long before he progressed to becoming a professional producer. In 2003/04 he sadly had some poor reviews on his first album and was subsequently dropped.
However by 2006/07 he rose from like a phoenix from the flames and everything he worked on appeared to turn to gold. Most notably was the second album by Amy Winehouse –the classic ‘Back to Black’.
In the 20 years since the album was released he also made Bruno Mars sound amazing and been a notable figure in the world of music producing. Take a look at his acceptance speech at this years’ Brit Awards, as he receives Outstanding Contribution to Music –
In recent years he was the executive producer of Barbie – the album in 2023 – the soundtrack of the film Barbie by Greta Gerwig. In addition to executive producing the album he also acted as co-producer and co-writer on several of the tracks.
Ronson’s debut memoir Night People – How to be a DJ in ‘90s New York City was published by Grand Central Publishing on 16th September 2025.

He will forever recognize Amy’s incredible talent that allowed him to continue in his career and in fact in 2015 he was part of a documentary film simply called Amy in which he talked candidly about his career and his work relationship with Winehouse. There is also some special footage of Ronson from the recording session of ‘Back to Black’ from March 2006 also at Winhouse’s funeral in London in July 2011. On 16th October 2015, Ronson became a patron of the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

Mark Ronson will continue to produce ground breaking albums like ‘Back to Black’. He will go on to contribute greatly to the world of music and be a highly inspirational music producer to young people but as he said in his speech he simply wouldn’t have this success if it wasn’t for that connection with Amy, her talent, her voice, that opened the door to this avenue in music giving him an illustrious career for the duration of his life.
