Spotlight on CCG Members - Alison Robinson - September 2020

When you’re young you have adult choices to make as to what career path you will choose as you leave secondary school. For some, it can be a daunting prospect, for others they know instinctively which path to take and the consistency needed to maintain it. That is so true for this month’s ‘Spotlight on CCG Members’. Let us learn more about Lancashire based Alison Robinson.
As Alison was considering which road to take, she ultimately chose the education sector and has now spent 30 years in the institution which sees her take on a variety of roles including teaching, research, student support and management.
It was at Myerscough College that she found her feet where she spent a considerable number of years as Vice Principal and Deputy Chief Executive. It wasn’t until April 2018 however when she became Principal and Chief Executive a step up from her previous role at the specialist land- based and sports college in Lancashire.
Alison has year round consultations with a variety of employers and sector groups in order for the college to meet the needs of the local, regional and national needs of the land-based and sports industries.
This includes networking in relation to subject specialisms such as:-
- Agriculture
- Countryside
- Agricultural engineering
- Greenspace
- Equine
- Animal
- Veterinary nursing
- Farrier
Alison also cares greatly for the welfare of her students and actively promotes the FREDIE principles of fairness, respect, equality, diversity and inclusion. This student- centred learning approach has given Mysercough College a unique title – Leader in Diversity, appropriately recognized by the National Centre for Diversity.
In addition to her weighty responsibilities at Myercough, Alison presides on a number of external Boards including Land-based Colleges Aspiring to Excellence (Landex), Land-based Learning Assessment Limited and The Lancashire Colleges.
Throughout her time at Myerscough College Alison has been extremely busy in a number of voluntary and community support roles which no doubt has enriched her teaching experience. These include the following:-
- Crisis counselling
- Marine conservation
- Supporting various local community groups
