Let's Talk... Creativity, Culture & Place- Preston - 5.30pm -8pm - 6/02/20

Jan, 17 2020

~It would  be excellent if there was an ongoing group which meets often and invites recognised employed people in their field of work in a relaxed and friendly environment to openly exchange thoughts and views in relation to the work they conduct.

Thankfully, there is. Lets Talk... is a regular post work gathering bringing together creative & digital businesses, freelancers and practitioners to discuss and debate the key issues faced by those working or operating in the sector.

Each evening is relaxed and informal, providing a space for emerging talent, established businesses and others to share ideas and inspirations. For each event there will be a different subject to inform the conversation and  develop  knowledge exchange

The next event is entitled ‘Let’s Talk.. Creativity , Culture and Place’ and will take place on Thursday 6th February 2020 from 5.30pm - 8pm located at Society 1, 9-10 Cross Street, Preston.

It will be an opportunity to examine the role of the creative industries in making towns or cities compelling, and the many ways the sector helps to define places.

The discussion is set to determine the following six areas of debate:-

  1.  Film
  2.  Place-making
  3.  Spatial development
  4.  Creative tourism
  5.  Clusters and hubs
  6.  The creative industries

Plus those who operate in the related professions impact and inform the development of global Uber cities as much as it is key to independent culture of smaller towns.

Guest speaker Michael Trainor will provide his wealth of experience in cultural areas.

Let’s get a  little scope on him:-

Michael  is the Creative Director of the new Art Bed & Breakfast (Art B&B) hotel.  BBC Radio 4’s Front Row went behind the scenes of Art B&B as a social enterprise which is currently being refurbished at a Blackpool seafront hotel.

It contains 19 bedrooms as well as social and creative spaces for performances, exhibition and events plus a bar. The concept is to re-invest profits into local creative initiatives and further art commissioning.

Michael's previous roles include the following :-

  • Director of LeftCoast, the trailblazing Arts Council supported Creative People & Places programme,
  • Chair of Northern Quarter association
  •  Various arts commissions including Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool City of Culture plus curatorial roles across the UK and beyond.

All are welcome for a 5.30pm start in which drinks and nibbles will be available upon entry. The roundtable discussion will initiate at approximately 6pm.

The guest host will take the lead in the conversation which will introduce a topic from their personal experiences. It will be a relaxed and topical occasion. Attendees are welcome to join the discussion or simply listen if they prefer.

Society1 is a few minutes walk from Preston train station and bus stops. Nearest parking is at Fishergate Shopping Centre or Avenham Car Park(beware the one-way system on the high street). Alternatively there's a park and ride from Walton-le-Dale or Portway.
