~Do you remember the bridge section of the 1978 classic Queen song ‘Bicycle Race?’ It featured an ensemble set of bell ringing which was designed to imitate the sound of a standard bike bell noise. Can you imagine the fun they had in the recording studio putting that part of the song into a fully produced track.

Thanks to The Worldwise Samba Drummers you could be part of a musical experience that may not replicate the classic Queen song but it will give you the skills to play a unique piece of instrument.

Tomorrow evening, ( Wednesday 8th January) UCLAN are hosting an event in the Media Factory Room ME035. ‘Funky Bells with the Worldwise Samba Drummers’ is scheduled to run from 6pm - 8pm.

It’s an ideal opportunity to learn how to play the agogo bells. If you’re unfamiliar with the instrument don’t worry, UCLAN music lecturer and Something for Everyone project leader Jon Aveyard will be available to assist you in getting you acquainted with this fantastic instrument.

Please note :- no previous musical experience is required and complete beginners are welcome as are professional drummers. The age restriction is for children aged 8 upwards and all adults can participate. It’s £3 entry fee.

The Worldwise Samba Drummers are a community group who play high-energy music inspired by the samba and candomblé music of Brazil. They meet every Wednesday in the Media Factory and regularly perform around Lancashire.

Come along and learn this fun and funky piece making prominent use of the big, booming surdos at the bottom and the tuneful agogo bells at the top. It’s a piece to shake away the winter blues and put a smile on your face:-
