~During the day birds can create a beautiful sound and look.  Sadly,  if you live in a city they are  often tainted by the excessive noise pollution coming from the nearby traffic. In addition, the magnificence of  the birds may be overshadowed by the flight plan of the aeroplane overhead.

Artist Kathy Hinde though, has created something truly magical which gives a fresh perspective of birds to an evening backdrop of quiet skies and relatively peaceful traffic.

Kathy has developed her work by the use of lighting and spatialised music to create the sensation of birds flying overhead. Each bird is handmade using the traditional paper folding technique of Origami. They light up in turn to create an animated sequence similar to stop motion animation accompanied by micro-compositions made from the sounds of distorted pianos and bells.

‘Luminous Birds’ has taken flight since Friday 20th December 2019 and runs until Sunday 19th January 2020. It will be seen at Avenham and Miller Parks on South Meadow Lane, Preston between the hours of 5pm till 12.00am.

Originally commissioned by Kidderminster Arts Festival 2015, with development and sound commissioned by Cryptic 2016. Kathy Hinde is an audiovisual artist inspired by behaviours and phenomena found in nature and the everyday. Here are two quotes from those that have experienced the beauty of her work:-

If you’re unfamiliar with the area just head towards Avenham Park which is just off the city centre and you will see the Riverside Walk located close to the Pavilion Café.

Many have observed the actions of birds immersed together as a truly breathtaking sight. Imagine a scene  of paper made birds in the night sky glowing in their journey across the skies.
