~Learning about the origins of a tribe or country can deepen our appreciation of the people that represent such a tribe and can widen our knowledge of the historical value they play in our lives.

The Gullah/Geechees are proud people of African descent on the Sea Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. They have maintained their uniqueness in the following four ways :-

  1. Language
  2. Music
  3. Food
  4. Traditions.

Their way of life is currently under threat from the effects of climate change. In response to this they have devised an interactive presentation which will take you on a journey through their cultural history, the continuing legacy of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, human rights and their current stand to stay on their land.

Queen Quet, Cheiftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation:- “The Reality of Being Gullah/Geechee” will take place on Monday 28th October from 12.30pm -2.30pm. It will be based at UCLAN’S Creative Innovation Zone Room 414 in the Media Factory, Preston.
