~Young people today need a focus. They need to invest considerable time into something which will sustain them both now and in the future. It also needs to be contemporary, fun and if you’re a teenager you’ll be looking for something which includes music, as music is intrinsic to almost every young person.

That’s exactly what Leroy Lupton did.  He graduated with a first class honours degree in Popular Music Recording at Salford Uni in 2013 and ever since he’s been cultivating his passion for music by creating his unique workshops at schools, community centres and events and he is genuinely interested in the welfare of young people and their interest in music.

He speaks personally about his youthful achievements and  the determination to excel in his field,

“As soon as I learned 2 chords on guitar at the age of 13 I was writing my own songs and performing them live. Composition and exploration have always been the driving force behind my musical passion”.

Leroy is a contemporary music producer specialising in modern pop, electronic, hip-hop, EDM and R&B styles. He is a singer/songwriter who plays guitar, bass, drums and synthesiser. His workshops are both diverse and inclusive in that he invites all participants to have a go at:-

  1. Music technology
  2. Songwriting
  3. Vocal (acapella / choral / individual / beatboxing / rapping)
  4. Drumming
  5. Guitar
  6. Sound design / video game music.

Now he is bringing his excellent  teaching skills  to Preston’s Harris Museum and Art Gallery. ‘Sampling Music and Technology Workshop’ will take place on Monday 27th May 2019 from 10.30am -4pm. Admission is completely free, just come with an open mind and free spirit.

The workshops are primarily designed for those that want to try their hand at making beats, using synths and looping. They are suitable for ages 13+ with an interest in music and technology.

There are three workshops taking place at the following times:

  • 10:30am - 11:30am
  • 12noon - 1pm
  • 1:30pm - 2:30pm
  • 3pm - 4pm

For the past 10 years Leroy has toured the country performing in various original bands supporting the likes of BeardyMan, The Hoosiers, Reeps One, From The Jam and Newton Faulkner among many others.

He concludes with these positive words about his music sessions and what he enjoys bringing to the group,

“My signature workshop is using music technology to enable composition and aid musical understanding. I like to have fun in a classroom exploring whacky sounds to create something unique yet credible”
