HFSS Launches "Education for All" Through Openawards

As part of our continous improvement programme at HFSS we are now offering the individuals that we support and the wider communities in Whitby and Scarborough the chance to update their basic skills such as Functional Maths and English as well as choosing from a menu of recognised courses from a National Training Provider.

This progressive step will put our Skills Centre at the heart of the local community by providing a range of educational courses to suit the needs and demands of the local economy.

The Openawards has been established to provide a range of courses from Entry Level 1 to Level 3 and the awards can be achieved by Award, Certificate or Diploma.

The addition of education to our well established Heath and Social Care services will encourage the people we support and the wider community to enhance their job prospects by gaining qualifications tailored to meet the demands of local businesses.  These courses will also help those involved to improve self-confidence, self-esteem and also develop positive mental health.

Education, as we know is a vital stepping stone to employment and this addition to HFSS services will offer social stability and direction to the disenfranchised within our community.

Our aim is to create a fairer and more just society which will address the chronic stress and fractures that having less power, status and control brings.  HFSS will work with people to build strong communities and develop empowering services.

The employment rate of the people who use support services in North Yorkshire remains low, joblessness is a key indicator for social exclusion.  Employment and meaningful activities are now recognised as essential elements of recovery from mental ill health.  Gaining skills to get a job is a central feature in helping individuals to achieve their aspirations.

A key objective in the North Yorkshire Vision for Social Care is for companies to support individuals to gain paid employment, this will aim to improve self-esteem, self worth and reduce costs and dependency on NYCC health and adult services.

At HFSS we continually work to increase independence of the people we support and look to reduce support as individuals develop and progress.  Our support is truely outcome and evidenced based ensuring quality and value for money.

The new HFSS education for all project will assist individuals to move forward!
