How This Former Preston Policeman Has Got All Arty From His Fulwood Back Garden

~For three decades a local policemen has been looking after the streets of Preston. He has courageously tackled many crime scenes but now he is swapping cuffs for canvases.

During the 1990’s David Wiles was serving as a police officer, whilst simultaneously nurturing a love for art, in particular painting.

Now at 61 he is retired and is spending the latter part of his life maintaining his business. He goes under the name The Painting Policeman and what started out as a passion has now become his career.

David works from home and has launched his very own art studio in his  back garden in Fulwood, Preston. He describes the joy of his job :-

“It’s absolutely fantastic to have something you can go home to, away from the humdrum of work. Painting was an outlet for me and I’ve maintained it ever since”.

In his back garden he can accommodate four to five students at a time. David spent arduous hours finding a venue for a reasonable price until he realised his back garden would be an ideal space. He managed to save enough funds to provide the materials.  David and his wife looked all over until they discovered Rubicon. The bonus with Rubicon was the fact it wasn’t cedar but composite and as a result you don’t have to maintain it.

Managing director of Rubicon Garden Rooms John Lyon felt immense gratitude for David finding them as he goes on to explain:-

“We are delighted to have been able to help David provide a warm, spacious venue to run his business from.  It’s a wonderful project to be involved in and we’re looking forward to seeing more artwork from David and his students for years to come.”

The Painting Policeman continues to enrol new students each year.
