Preston Girl's Vision Of Britain By 2219 Created In Lego

Mar, 29 2019

~It’s hard to imagine what Britain will look like in 200 years time. Consider Preston, for example, most of the buildings are old and will need continuous renovation to survive 200 years. How about a child’s vision of the future? Perhaps their youthful mind may be a little more imaginative than the adult population, it’s certainly what one girl has cooked up during school break..

Seven-year-old Preston based Saira Ali   has won a nationwide competition with her drawing of the future. The highlights include ‘sky orbs’ lighting up the night sky, flying cars, dragons and ice cream buildings.

One of the UK’s leading futurologists Richard Watson reviewed hundreds of entries from children across the UK. Richard expressed his delight in the uniqueness and originality of Saira’s work:-

“I saw hundreds of interesting and creative visions of how we could be living in the future, highlighting what the next generation imagines our lives will be like. What stood out to me about Saira’s picture was how imaginative it was – from ice cream buildings to sky orbs to flying cars, she certainly shows an interesting vision of the future! If we already have driverless cars now, who’s to say we won’t have flying cars by 2219? Ice cream buildings are probably a bit more of a stretch, but who knows?!”

Her drawing is now to be transformed into a giant Lego model on display at Legoland Discover Centre in Manchester. It took 31 hours for model builder James Windle to build and spans 50cm in height, 60cm in width and includes 4,385 lego bricks.

Saira, from Fishwick, has won a year’s membership to the Lego centre at Manchester. She concludes with these wonderful words of optimism about the future,

“The world right now isn’t very colourful, so in the future I want everything to be more colourful and eye catching – that’s why I put lots of rainbow colours in there. The flying cars just came off the top of my head, because it would be cool if you looked outside and all the cars were floating in the air with wings on them.”
