Preston To Host Bigger Fringe May 2019

Mar, 15 2019

~When performing arts students graduate from college and enter into a University setting during the autumn season some may shudder at the bigger environment. Others though,  may embrace the domain and use the time wisely to develop their comedy based scripts, spoken word rhythmic formula or practise their Shakespearean theatrical pose in front of friends.

This can be compared to the small scale version of The Lancashire Fringe Festival which took place in 2016 and covered the wider district of Preston.

Now in 2019, organisers are planning a more bigger showcase thanks to a profitable £10,000 of Arts Council funding. Festival creator and local producer Garry Cook has already put on several shows in Preston including comedian Ruth E Cockburn’s Love Letters to Blackpool and poet Louise Fazackerley’s Bird St and Other Unlikely Love Stories.

These one - off performances have gone down a storm with the people of Preston and now Garry is reaching out to acts that would like to get involved prior to The Fringe 2019 as he explains,

“I’ve been lucky enough to persuade some brilliant performers to the city already. I’m hoping they will be involved in this next project by doing some pre-festival performances at community venues across the city. I’m looking for community groups to work with for those shows”.

Primarily he is looking for community groups but he is also keen for  artists and performers to participate and he’d also  like local businesses to get involved through sponsorship opportunities.

Garry adds these final words of determination and joy as he helps make The Fringe 2019 a reality,

“The City Council wants the arts to be a driving force in realising its cultural aims and there are loads of people, including me, on board with this ambition. I want this festival to contribute to that progress and I can’t wait to work with these institutions and businesses to help make Preston the best place in the region to enjoy live performances.”

Lancashire Fringe Festival 2019,  will take place from Wednesday 15 May to Saturday 25 May in various venues across the city. Most of the  shows will be free to attend, with audiences making an optional pay-what-you-decide donation.
