An Oral Historian's Journey - Harris Museum - 6pm-7.30pm- 30/1/19

~During a teenager’s secondary education they are given specific options as they reach their fourth year. These options can determine the students abilities and also how they can progress upon leaving High School.
One option is history. For some this may appear boring and perhaps a little outdated especially with the internet led world of the 21st century. For others, though, they may feel that learning about the past can give them a more resolute grounding of where they belong in the present.
As a student’s interest grows they may take advanced history lessons during college time and progress to study a course at the local University on an historic subject of their choice.
Dr. Elizabeth Roberts went on such a journey and she will soon deliver a talk about a specific type of history.
On Wednesday January 30th from 6pm- 7.30pm you can enjoy the ‘Harris History Talk Series:- An Oral Historian’s Journey’. It will take place at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston City centre.
Dr. Elizabeth Roberts will go into great depth into how she became an oral historian, some of the problems that she encountered, and what she learned from her pioneering work across Barrow, Lancaster and Preston.
Lancaster University is currently containing the Elizabeth Roberts Working Class Oral History Archive, a comprehensive collection of material that features the voices and memories of people, communities, and participants in past events.
This particular archive has recently been the focus of the ‘Walking in Others Footsteps’ project with Mirador and utilised in the production of the short film ‘Give Me Today, Anytime’ recent winner of the Arts and Humanities Research Council Inspiration Award (2018).
The event is free to attend just have an inquiring mind and one that appreciates the historical relevance that makes the North West of England so intrinsic in the modern era:-
