Trans Disciplinary Talk And Discussion - UCLAN - 4pm- 6.30pm- 13/12/18

Dec, 11 2018

~No matter how great a person’s  position is or how accomplished they may be, cannot tackle world issues on their own. There needs to be a team of highly skilled and reputable people to deal effectively with what is happening on the world scene.

Sufficient research is needed. ‘Trans-disciplinary’ research attempts to address real world problems by bringing together many different kinds of expertise and experience.

On Thursday December 13th between the hours  4:00pm – 6:30pm you can experience an exciting talk and discussion entitled, ‘Is the Future Trans-Disciplinary? Explorations in Engaged Research’ ICSC Seminar.

It will take place at UCLAN’S Harrington Building Room 320 and will be delivered by Professor Lynn Froggett and Dr Larry Reynolds of the ICSC.

A number of questions will be analyzed and answered in great depth, including :-
 • Can different academic disciplines, from the social, natural, medical and engineering sciences to the arts and humanities work together? What are the barriers and limits to this?

• What are the differences between multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary modes of research?

• How do other forms of expertise and experience from groups beyond university disciplines work in trans-disciplinary research?

• How can different citizens and community groups, professional and practitioners groups, industry, public and third sector organisations collaborate with academics to produce new ways of understanding and addressing real-world problems?

• How can these different ways of knowing be combined? Do some ways still count more than others? What problems may arise from trans-disciplinary encounters?

By teatime you should have more awareness of  the experiences and practical dilemmas of trans-disciplinarity and have the ability to identify
a range of theoretical resources with the skills to reflect on the emergence of engaged and trans-disciplinary knowledge production.

The membership of the Institute of Citizenship, Society and Change has a rich and varied experience of transdiciplinary work.
The event is free and audience participation is encouraged throughout the discussion. Come along and find out more.
