~Social interaction amongst friends, families and loved ones cannot be replaced or ignored. The memories we share can last for years sometimes decades. But on a more academic level, discussions built around research techniques, approaches and processes can provide a valuable platform for either an individual or a group of people entering a specific area in the workplace.

Adelphi Research Network ticks the above boxes. It takes place the last Wednesday of every month during teaching terms at UCLAN. The location for the conversation is based at Room 414 of the Media Factory, Preston Campus.

This month the discussion covers the subject of the media and will explore the following questions :-

  • What does it mean and what does it take to make media professionally?
  • What is the lived experience of media workers within the media industries worldwide?
  •  How can we study and understand media production practices and professions in the context of rapidly changing technological and cultural contexts?

Mark Deuze, Professor of Communications at the University of Amsterdam and lead singer of Skinflower will help the group gain a greater depth of understanding and knowledge around the media context.

His new book Making Media, co-edited with Mirjam Prenger, will be the central focus of the discussion as Mark will describe what it means and what it takes to make media (professionally). Discovering lived experience of media workers within the global media, including rich case studies of the main media industries and professions: television, journalism, social media entertainment, advertising and public relations, digital games, and music.

The session will start at 4pm and conclude at 5.15pm with the option for some if they wish to continue the conversation at The Adelphi pub just around the corner from the Media Factory. Please note :- the event is completely free to attend.

If your considering a move into the media domain, why not learn some essential skills from experienced people in their field of expertise:-
