In 1828 the University of Central Lancashire was founded in Preston as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge. Over it’s 190 years it has
helped talented people from all walks of life to make the most of their potential.

Here are a couple of  facts which make it such a unique and inspiring University :-

  • During 2010 it became the first UK modern Higher Education institution to appear in the QS World University Rankings
  •  Throughout  2016, the Centre for World University Rankings estimated Central Lancashire to be in the top 3.7 percent of all worldwide universities.

This highlighted  the progress the institution has made in providing students with real-world learning experiences and reflecting the institution’s broad pool of academic talent.

Now in 2018 it has grown to become  one of the UK’s largest universities with a student and staff community approaching 38,000. Abroad, the University has academic partners in all regions of the globe reaching  world stage status as a  highly prestigious institution. The University also  has an increasingly thriving campus in Cyprus delivering UCLAN programmes and original research within a Central Lancashire environment and culture.

Baring all things into consideration, it would be fitting therefore to have a public exhibition showcasing some of the University’s rich history,  rarely seen artefacts, images and showreels from the  archives, on public display.

‘A History of Your Local University’: Public Open Day and Exhibition will take place on Saturday November 24th at UCLAN’S Livesey House Café, Livesey House, Preston between the hours of 11am - 3pm.

You will have the opportunity to meet a modern British History historian and researcher Dr Keith Vernon who has recently launched his own book based on the subject of this event. You will also be able to meet the archivists who have put this special collection together to mark this celebratory year.
During the day you can also  participate in a guided walking tour to explore some of the iconic buildings that have played a major role in it’s history. Light refreshments will be available. Please note :- this is a free event and no booking is required just turn up.

Nearly 200 years of enrolling students on specific discipline courses such as Fashion and  Forensic Science and training young ones on  Dentistry programmes and student doctors learning Undergraduate Medicine, (a course being delivered in one of the UK's most modern and inclusive Medical Schools) has given UCLAN a highly sought after reputation not just in Preston but on a much wider, global scale.
