Burnley Canal Festival 2018

Burnley Canal Festival 2018

Aug, 24 2018

~As the summer is coming to an end, the season of festivals is rapidly concluding. You may, however, be pleased to know that there is a festival taking place this weekend. Perhaps not on the grand scale of Glastonbury or T in the Park but this festival caters for all the family with vibrant performances and fun based activities.

Burnley Canal Festival will take place Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th August 2018. It’s an opportunity to experience Burnley’s historic canal heritage in this free Bank Holiday weekend event.

Each day will begin at 11am and for Saturday it will conclude at 5pm with an earlier time on Sunday at 4pm. Here is a sneak preview of what you can expect :-

There will be a wide mix of live music from Bollywood to Blues.

Take a chilled trip on board the lifeboat, the slowest ride on Earth, or take a journey of the imagination, aboard the famous travelling machines Flycycle and Submercycle!

Absorb the Leeds & Liverpool canal, courtesy of The Desmond Family Canoe Trail, and experience the canal from a different perspective.

Visit Victoria Mill, where UCLAN will invite you to try carnival themed activities in their new home.

Street food , free arts and crafts workshops and children’s fairground rides

And for those who love adventure, the Towpath Explorers have devised an exciting game trail for all the family.

Since it’s inception in 2012 the Burnley Canal Festival has grown from strength to strength. This is due, in part by the tireless work of local volunteers and supported by partners including Burnley Council and Canal & River Trust. Six years later and it is now a part of the Super Slow Way arts programme and is managed by Mid Pennine Arts, the charity based in Burnley canal side, and events company Deco Publique, creators of brilliant events like Blackburn’s National Festival of Making, with the volunteers of the Festival Committee representing local communities.

Here are a couple of quotes from past attendees of the Festival,

“The best family event I have ever been to! We had the best day ever, lots of laughs, great chat, mega fun! We will be back next year! “

“What a great time our family had, with new and unique experiences, not your run-of-the-mill local festival…”
