~You’ve lost someone dear in your life. The condolence cards have all been packed away. It’s been at least 6 months since their death and your thoughts are still intertwined within the heart of the one you lost.

Bereavement is a stressful time and it can go on for months sometimes years yet as expressed in the opening paragraph poetry can do a lot to heal the mind and heart.

A calm, peaceful environment is essential to be able to hone in on your creative side and to collectively gather your thoughts to think about that special person who entered your life.

Taking place between now and the end of June are workshops aimed to help you creatively deal with the loss of your loved one. ‘Writing for Wellbeing :- Poetry, Grief and Healing’ is taking place at The Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston.

No experience is  necessary and new writing techniques will be developed looking at different approaches to grief and healing. Poet Yvonne Reddick will run the class and counsellor Peter Cardew will be on hand to discuss privately any concerns you may have regarding your loss.

The first session took place last week which was a gentle introduction and an opportunity to learn how we can use expressive writing as a tool to help us cope with difficult times.

Here is a brief overview of the following five sessions :-

Session 2 – 25 April
Community History Library – 1st floor
6.00pm-7.45pm
We will explore the idea of loss, and think about the different stages that we go through when we experience bereavement. We will look at poems about loss and begin to write our own.
