Spotlight On CCG Members :- Professor Romesh Gupta

Feb, 1 2018

~~When it comes to our health and well being it is vital that we, as the out- going public continue to seek ways to improve our lives by our lifestyle choices, daily exercise and a regular intake of fresh fruit and vegetables. All things considered then we want to be in the safe, capable hands of a trained health expert that can guide us and assist towards a healthier way of life.

This month’s ‘Spotlight on CCG Members’ is just the man for the job. Professor Romesh Gupta has  worked as a consultant physician for over three decades during which time he played various roles with employers in the NHS and with the Department of Health,  General Medical Council , National Clinical Assessment Services , Royal College of Physicians, British Medical Association, British International Doctors Association and the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.

This plethora of experience from the 1980’s – 2018 has given him the confidence and knowledge to undertake several research projects evaluating the effectiveness of recently introduced health policies. He has also specialised in planning, preparing and delivering a residential course on Management and Professional Development for senior Specialist Registrars of the Mersey Deanery. When appraisal for doctors was introduced, he delivered appropriate training throughout the North-west.

His interest in health continued and as one member of The Health Mela events he has strived to reach out to the people of Lancashire with health based workshops, music, dance, food and with trained professionals on board he has provided an opportunity for locals to receive excellent advice on healthy eating and the benefits of taking physical exercise.

This devotion to help people and a desire to promote health and well being across the community has finally been acknowledged by royalty. In recognition of his achievements Professor Gupta has received a Gold Award for Clinical Excellence from the Department of Health, is a recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International and is appointed Officer of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty the Queen.

In 2018 Professor Romesh Gupta is currently leading the Centre for Research in Health & Wellbeing at the University of Bolton. He also chairs the National Forum for Health & Wellbeing. He was a Founder Director of the Multi Cultural Studies Centre

His specialised knowledge has allowed him to co-author three books, edit books on the health of ethnic minorities and he has over 50 publications.

Professor Romesh Gupta currently lives in Chorley and is married to a doctor. It appears the two have inspired their children to follow in their footsteps  as their  three daughters are also serving the NHS.

We look forward to seeing him and discussing health related subjects at the next Health Mela.

We warmly welcome Professor Romesh Gupta to the CCG.
