Preston's 11th International Film Festival - UCLAN - 16/10/17 - 23/10/17

~Learning and appreciating people from different countries  can widen own understanding of the lives they live and the personal circumstances that can  affect them whether it be trauma, relationships or simply human emotions that can vary dependant on their point in life.

The University of Central Lancashire has openly embraced people from different nationalities and cultures. It is therefore appropriate that a 
Film Festival which  seeks to promote, educate and explore those living abroad is presented to a receptive audience.

In association with The Worldwise Learning Centre at UCLAN you can enjoy over a week long festival which covers, in total, eight different films.

Now in it’s 11th year Preston’s International Film Festival begins next Monday 16th till Monday 23rd October 2017. It will take place at
6.30pm at The Foster Building in the Mitchell and Kenyon Cinema. The UCLAN Hispanic Society will  introduce  a week that sees us jetting off from Spain - Israel.

Here is a complete overview of the films in question :-

Mon 16 - UNDERTOW (Spanish)Director:
Javier Fuentes-León
An unusual ghost story set on the Peruvian seaside; a married fisherman struggles to reconcile his devotion to his male lover within his town's rigid traditions.

Tue 17 - TRAIN TO BUSAN (Korean)Director:
Sang-ho Yeon
While a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan.

Wed 18 - HUMAN CAPITAL (Italian)Director:
Paolo Virzì
The destinies of two families are irrevocably tied together after a cyclist is hit off the road by a jeep in the night before Christmas Eve.

Thu 19 - GOODBYE BERLIN (German)Director:
Fatih Akin
Two young teenage boys steal a car and embark on a road trip that will probably change their lives.


Fri 20 - BATTLE FOR SEVASTOPOL (Russian)Director:
Sergey Mokritskiy
A story of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, the most successful female sniper in history.

Sat 21 - HIMIZU (Japanese)Director:
Sion Sono
After two teenagers from abusive households befriend each other, their lives take a dark adventure into existentialism, despair, and human frailty.

Sun 22 - BEAUTIFUL LIES (French)Director:
Pierre Salvadori
A hairdresser forwards a passionate love letter to her mother.

Mon 23rd - LEMON TREE (Arabic)Director:
Eran Riklis
The story of a Palestinian widow who must defend her lemontree field when a new Israeli Defense Minister moves next to her and threatens to have her lemon grove torn down.

Freshers, established students, staff and the public  are welcome to this exciting and educational week of films. The “Festival Pass” is available in which you can watch all eight films for a mere £15.00 saving you £9 per person.
