UCLAN Graduate And CCG Member Ketran Eastham Fulfills Dream

Dec, 14 2016

~Our early life experience can seriously influence us in respect of the career we desire to choose. When Ketran Eastham was 16 she was  exposed to her late grandfather who suffered with dementia. For six months she cared for him right up until his death. She knew then, instinctively that mental health nursing was the route for her.

But Ketran’s love of other people and her natural desire to care came much earlier at just 4 years of age.

Now, just under twenty years later she has fulfilled that dream by graduating as a mental health nurse at UCLAN last week.

At 23 she isn’t about to waste any time as she  has already started working for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at the Priory in Cheadle Royal Hospital.

Speaking in respect of her new role and how her late Grandfather would have felt about her talents, she expresses these words,

“I love working with young people and I know this is the area for me. Eventually I’d like to do a master's degree in children and adolescent mental health and I know that my Grandad would’ve been so proud of what I’ve achieved”.

In addition to her career ambitions Ketran has also actively participated in more than 1,000 hours of voluntary work which includes working as a Scout Leader with West Lancashire Scouts, UCLAN’S CCG with the running of events and going abroad as an Eco-Student in Africa. She was given an award at UCLAN which highlights her acclaimed work in the voluntary sector.

Referring back to her career pursuits, she is already looking to the future and seeing how her work will develop.

She leaves us with these poignant words from her late Grandfather,

“He always knew I wanted to be a nurse.”
