The Houghton Weavers, Chorley, Friday 19th August 2016

Jun, 30 2016

~Just over forty years ago life in the UK was quite different. The punk movement was in full force, it was a summer like no other and the first female prime minister was on the brink of being elected, so some things I guess aren’t that too  different in today’s political minefield.

Yes 1975 was certainly a year to remember. One band though that began their career in this year combined the wit and humour  of modern life with the laidback easy listening sound of their folk roots.

Songs such as “The Blackpool Belle”, “Uncle Joe’s Mintballs” and “Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs" (a biographical song about the painter L. S. Lowry), made them household favourites. Their wry look at life and the personal references to contemporary living created an authentic and personal appeal to their fans.

Now in 2016 The Houghton Weavers are still going strong. They are delighted to announce an exclusive performance occurring at The Lancastrian Suite, Park Hall, Charnock Richard, Chorley.

This marks a special fundraising concert for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Yes the ‘Lancashire Lads’ ( David Littler, Steve Millington and Tony Berry) are playing their classic songs and many more on Friday 19th August at 7.30pm at The Park Hall Hotel,  Chorley.

Tickets are priced £15 per person. For ticket enquiries please contact Catherine on :- 01772 524412 or email ;- enquiries@lthtr.nhs.uk You can also contact the Park Hall Hotel events team on ;- 01257 455 000 to book a pre-show meal.

Named after their hometown Westhoughton and as Greater Manchester’s finest comes this life affirming quote from The Weavers themselves,

“Bolton’s culture brings together these world wide diversities into a microcosm. The aim of the town should be to bring these various differences together to promote understanding and harmony which will in turn give the future town its own unique culture! The Houghton Weavers will continue to promote the musical culture of this area world wide.”

And, in addition, they will thrill audiences as they perform at  the Lancastrian Suite in Chorley a close relative of Bolton and a sheer delight to be had by all. Friday 19th August 7.30pm.
