Armed Forces Concert This Summer In Preston June 25th 2016

~The Harris Museum and Art Gallery has been pride of place in Preston since the late 19th century.  It has helped to promote new and existing artists in a culturally new and exciting way. It has exhibited fascinating works of art from some of the great classics of the post - war era.

War in itself can conceive artistic imagery. Think of the poppy fields and how we commemorate soldiers from war conflicts in November. Consider the attire of the royal navy, the British army and the land girls that waited anxiously for news of their husbands at war.

Music also played a major part in the great wars. Big bands playing to the battle of the somme. Today we have The Salvation Army who perform brass band accompaniment in respect to the fallen soldiers.

Now in 2016 The Harris Museum and Art Gallery is set to be the centre stage focal point for an afternoon concert that will see Prestonians reflect on those who fought in past wars as part of Armed Forces Day.

Last year it was held at the Guild Hall but organisers felt the Harris would be more suitable to maximise the space at the Flag Market, weather permitting of course as Drew Gale, part of the team behind the event explains,

“Using the Harris means we can have the crowd down on the Flag Market. I’m going for the same feel as the Christmas lights switch on but in the nice summer weather. Lets hope it doesn’t rain!”

On Saturday June 25th between 1-4pm Preston will host what will no doubt be a memorable afternoon both for children, young people and adults alike. Regarding the performers booked for the day, well, Drew has high hopes for some top class musicians that can set the day alight as he shares these thoughts,

“We want to ensure we’re mixing things up each year.
Last year we had Collabro and they were brilliant. So we’re trying to get them back again and that’s the calibre of acts we’re looking at.”.

More acts will be announced in the coming weeks. In addition, a wrestling show by Preston City Wrestling is taking place inside the Guild Hall on the Saturday evening, and a Spitfire flypast has been confirmed for the day.
