Art Therapy And The Art Of Beautiful Writing March 19-20th And March 26th 2016

Mar, 10 2016

~Going back as far the prehistoric times when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, Neanderthal men and women had not developed language  and conversation abilities. How did they converse? They did so with  grunting noises but they also drew on cave walls, creating  hieroglyphics, a series of symbols, drawings and signs that helped to formulate what the Neanderthal was trying to say.

As time passed the Victorian age saw school children writing with chalk on stone tablets sums and equations. In the present day ( 2016) we know longer need to write on caves but interestingly we use the modern tablet to access the internet or social net work and use expressive symbols in phone text to highlight an emotion.

Another style of writing that has a creative form and displays great beauty  is the skill of calligraphy. This can be both therapeutic and a great development of the first written format back in Neanderthal days.

Now in 2016, Arabic calligraphy is the talk of the town and art therapy workshops designed to bring out your creative side. You can have a go at ‘The Art of Therapy’ delivered by Lizzie Hobbs falling on the weekend of March 19th and 20th. Additionally try your hand at ‘The Art of Beautiful Writing’ with Gulnaz Mahboob on Saturday 26th March.

Based at The Black Cube, 65, King William Street Blackburn, a number of prospective artistic people will come together to converse and develop designs as part of a major piece of work. This work will be included in an art book and exhibition at Black Cube which will raise awareness of art and health in ethnic minority communities.

Artwork will be influenced by Arabic calligraphy, mandala, geometry and eastern patterns. All materials and refreshments will be provided.
There are only 10 places available for each of the workshops mentioned. Feel free to save a little extra to support this good cause.
