Preston Bus Station Set As Unique Film

Preston Bus Station Set As Unique Film

Jan, 21 2016

~Bus stations are generally pretty bland locations. A focal point drop off, meet up or spend time in the café. Films on the other hand are typically interesting and stimulate the mind into originality and design.

The two together on paper doesn’t  seem to work but if a creative film-maker is on hand something quite unique could be formed.

Artist Nathaniel Mellors had decided to use the Preston bus station as the backdrop for his new ‘absurdist’ film set in the city centre. The film will see several Neanderthals inhabiting the grade 2 listed building and specific places around the city.

The Harris Museum and Art Gallery has got behind Mellor’s film project and it will be embedded into an exhibition held at the Harris titled ‘ Nothing Happens, Twice’.

In late 2014, Mellor received £40, 000 from the Arts Council enabling him to go ahead with his work. That sum total has helped Nathaniel shoot various locations around Preston and the bus station. His imagination is revealed in his film as the bus station is portrayed as a Tardis like interior subjecting the Neanderthal eccentric family to a series of fantastical events.

Mellor’s work will be set poised with other artists ranging from national to international with the ‘Theatre of the Absurd’ as it’s thematic concept.

Between 6pm-8pm on Friday 5th February 2016 the preview will take place. It is free to attend and you would be showing your support for local and outside artists.

The following day, Saturday 6th February until Saturday 4th June 2016 sees the exhibition reaching a wider public domain.

After watching Mellor’s film you may have a very different perspective of the iconic Preston bus station than ever before.
