Professor Reaches Top Award

Jan, 7 2016

~The University Of Central Lancashire (UCLAN ) in Preston is recognised for it’s successful graduates who go onto work and or seek further education.

Now ( 2016) it has just has the pleasure of awarding another highly skilled graduate and one whose own realm is within the School of Health Sciences. Professor James Selfe has just recently been given the certificate of  achievement as a Doctorate of Science.

His special interest is in the management of musculoskeletal disorders, specifically the kneecap ( patellofemoral joint). This specialist focus has seen James shelve several portfolios of publications and a wide range of international activities.

Speaking of his uniqueness, he had the following to say,
“As far as I can tell there is only one other physiotherapist in the world who has one of these and he is in Australia”.

He,  may be at the other side of the world, but it’s far out places that Professor Selfe has had the pleasure in working with. Since 1996 he has worked with a group in Finland. In 2016 he has worked with fellow academics in Belgium, Turkey and the Netherlands.

James was also responsible for the development and leadership of the National Physiotherapy Research Network Cumbria and Lancashire Hub.
This resulted in the launch of an Allied Health Professions Research Hub for Cumbria and Lancashire.

Professor Selfe is now  working on a research paper that explains  sub groups within the kneecap pain population and developing specific treatments for these groups. The British Journal of Sports Medicine will publish the results of James’ research exploration in due time.

Prior to receiving his award mentioned earlier, the professor had to submit a portfolio of his work and synoptic commentary which highlighted how he came to his findings. It was ultimately assessed by two examiners. They both came to the same conclusion, his award was inevitable.

Professor Selfe has these final words of happiness on receiving his award,

“ I’m absolutely delighted to be recognised this way”.

His work will not go unsurpassed  and he will no doubt continue to educate and inspire others at UCLAN.
