Supermarket Gym Proposal

Supermarket Gym Proposal

Nov, 24 2015

~Not many of us enjoy the weekly shop. For me, it’s a dash in, follow the list and dash out again. Imagine though, if you could work out there? This doesn’t mean running up and down the aisles with your five year old or taking a marathon shop just to have lunch at the café upstairs.

Proposals for a gym may get the go ahead at Sainsbury’s supermarket in Flintoff Way, Deepdale. If the bosses get their desired dream it could mean 15 new jobs would be available.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “It is a proposal for a budget gym to serve the population in the north Preston residential area. It will create 15 new jobs and we look forward to a decision being forthcoming shortly.”

The existing floorspace will be home for the gym and access to the facility will be from outside. The positive benefits of having a gym at a supermarket could mean better health and well being for the general public, more job opportunities and the joy of a work out after you’ve shopped.

Sainsbury’s supermarket has competition from Morrisons and Booths so by creating a gym it should, in effect boost it’s credibility for young people and older adults. If the store is used more efficiently it will increase the public sales of it’s produce thereby making it a more accessible and sustainable supermarket.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson, explains what the proposed change will entail and the financial cost of it all,

“The proposed change of use of a small part of the existing foodstore will facilitate the introduction of a leisure use, targeted towards providing a quality facility at the budget end of the gym market, one that is typified on retail park locations and in accessible residential locations.”

So next time you go to Sainsbury’s make sure you’ve got your shopping
bags, your list, your towel and gym clothes. This could be one of the biggest changes to the way we shop and look after our health the North West and Britain in general have ever seen.
