World Mental Health Day Reflective October 10th 2015

Oct, 12 2015

What could possibly unite people from all walks of life that have ‘resilience’ tattooed across their forehead? Of course it’s metaphorical but I am referring to the collective fight against matters of the mind that happens annually on October 10th.

‘World Mental Health Day’ took place on Saturday and this year’s theme was ‘Dignity in mental health’ and this ensured people can continue with dignity, through human rights and health directives.

The overall aim of the day is to raise awareness of mental health and to make it more recognised across the wider domain, be it in schools, colleges, the local community, businesses and universities.

UCLAN prepared the build up to World Mental Health Day with the 1 in 4 film festival from the 5th -9th October which culminated in the classic film on the Friday.

In the South of England  The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ( AKA William and Kate ) visited London’s Harrow College hosted by Mind and met young people who suffer with mental health problems and the stigma associated with it.

Mental Health doesn’t just hit England, around the world many people are struck with debilitating mental illnesses that make them subjects of discrimination and fall victim to emotional and physical abuse. This is due, in part, to ignorance surrounding mental health and the lack of opportunities on a global scale for those suffering with long term mental health conditions.
