Buildings of Distinction - Buckingham Palace - London

Oct, 14 2026

In the City of Westminster – London- England stands a building of distinction. It has been a focal point for the British people at times of national rejoicing and mourning. It has been in all our lives and a younger generation is establishing itself as soon taking over the monarch. It is of course Buckingham Palace.

Please watch this film explaining the basic facts on this distinct building –

Many of the palace's contents are part of the Royal Collection; they can, on occasion, be viewed by the public at the King's Gallery, near the Royal Mews. The purpose-built gallery opened in 1962 and displays a changing selection of items from the collection. It occupies the site of the chapel that was destroyed in the Second World War. The palace was designated a Grade I listed building in 1970. Its state rooms have been open to the public during summer and on selected dates throughout the year since 1993. The money raised in admission fees was originally put towards the rebuilding of Windsor Castle after the 1992 fire devastated many of its staterooms. It now funds the conservation of Royal Collection artwork. In the year to 31 March 2025, 683,000 people visited the palace, and 174,000 visited the gallery.

The palace, like Windsor Castle, is owned by the reigning monarch in right of the Crown. Occupied royal palaces do not form part of the Crown Estate, nor are they the monarch's personal property, unlike Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle. The UK Government is responsible for maintaining the palace in exchange for receiving the profits made by the Crown Estate.

Buckingham Palace is a symbol and home of the British monarchy, an art gallery and a tourist attraction. Behind the gilded railings and gates that were completed by the Bromsgrove Guild in 1911, lies Webb's famous façade, which was described in a book published by the Royal Collection Trust as looking "like everybody's idea of a palace”.

Every room is a historic trip back in time, it is filled with past monarchs and decorative walls. The grandeur of Buckingham Palace is beyond comprehension. An average working man couldn’t afford the cost of living there let alone maintain its high attention to detail. It’s been the place where new prime ministers are sworn in, the home of grief and shock in response to Diana, Princess of Wales and a place of celebration for the king’s birthday where the next generation of monarchs are slowly waiting in the wings.

Visiting Buckingham Palace is a once in a lifetime experience. You will notice the changing of the guards, the differing flags on display and the grandiose gates that once opened invite you to a breath-taking experience you’ve previously only dreamt about.

It’s been the staple-point for all our lives and as the Kings’ health continues to decline a new generation will sail the monarchy’s ship into the future reign. We’re in good hands as William and Kate have a fresh outlook and are determined to maintain the high standard that the Queen kept and Charles is currently doing.

Buckingham Palace is a building quite like no other. Its history goes back centuries yet in the modern era people are still fascinated by it and it hasn’t lost any of its glory.
