In two years an English singer songwriter reaches a year milestone. Lead singer and principal lyricist of the rock band Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, turns 80 in 2028.
It’s amazing to think he was just 17 years old when he started in the music industry, delving into a series of genres such as –
- Rock
- Blues
- Folk
- Country
- Hard rock
- Heavy metal
Plant was taught to become a chartered accountant but it was music that was pulling him in the direction his life was destined to be. At 16 he started performing in a local blues band and gained live music experience with Band of Joy drummer John Bonham.
By 1968, manager Peter Grant recruited him and guitarist Jimmy Page to join The Yardbirds. This ultimately became Led Zeppelin who enjoyed chart success till 1980. At this point Plant began his solo career.

Plant is the ultimate front man with his cool demeanour and giving everything he’s got to give the audience the performance of his life. In his heyday he would wear flamboyant clothes to epitomize the frontman persona and as a youth he idolized singers like Elvis Presley, Sonny Boy Williamson 2 and Howlin’ Wolf to create this amazing stage show.

A formidable rock star who swapped accountancy for a life as a dedicated musician to the arts and has been at the top of his game for over 60 years. Led Zeppelin have reformed since their demise in the 80’s and they may return to the spotlight again but for now Plant is settled as a solo rock star.
