A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…well Modesto California America to be precise. Yes George Walton Lucas Junior was born May 14th 1944 which makes him 81 in the present day.

Following a freak accident with a car Lucas went to pursue other interests which were both safer and more realistic. George started to become intrigued by Canyon Cinema and his interest only grew from there on in.

Since January 2012, Lucas has taken a back seat on producing major motion picture films and instead has chosen to focus on smaller, independently budgeted features.

So on the next series of Star Wars films beginning with ‘The Force Awakens’ – Lucas worked as creative consultant and J.J. Abrams as director. It was made in partnership with Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company which had acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.

Various other Star Wars prequels were made from 2016 – 2019 including –

  • Rogue One – A Star Wars Story
  • The Last Jedi
  • Solo – A Star Wars Story
  • The Rise of Skywalker

Plus the Star Wars streaming series – The Mandalorian, the eighth season of Games of Thrones and fifth instalment of Indiana Jones.

 But it was and still continues to be the Star Wars franchise at the epicentre of George Lucas’s visionary output. His very surname becoming the creative film production company that has seen Star Wars as something of an institution, a blueprint for his legacy. Lucasfilm was founded in 1971 and incorporated as Lucasfilm  Ltd on September 12th 1977. He was also principal owner of the Star Wars Corporation Inc. as a subsidiary to control various legal and financial aspects of Star Wars (1977) including copyright, sequel and merchandising rights.

In addition to Lucasfilm he is always keen to expand the business. By June 2013, George was considering establishing a museum, the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum, to be built on Crissy Field near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, which would display his collection of illustrations and pop art, with an estimated value of more than $1 billion.

On January 17, 2017, Lucas announced that an eleven-acre campus with green space and the museum's five-story 300,000 square foot building will be constructed over what was a parking lot in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, California. It is due to be completed in 2026.

Despite being a creative entrepreneur this hasn’t gone to his head. His philanthropic endeavours saw him pledge half of his magnitude fortune to charity as part of an effort called The Giving Pledge led by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to persuade America’s richest individuals to donate financial wealth to charities.

In addition, in 1991 The George Lucas Educational Foundation was founded as a non-profit operating foundation to celebrate and encourage innovation in schools. The foundation's content is available under the brand Edutopia, in an award-winning web site, social media and via documentary films.

George acted as one of the leading proponents of the E-Rate program in the universal service fund,which was developed as part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. On June 24, 2008, Lucas testified before the United States House of Representatives subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet as the head of his Foundation to advocate for a free wireless broadband educational network.

Between 2005 – 2021 – Lucas made considerable donations to noteworthy charities. Demonstrating his strong philanthropic spirit and willingness to give to charities and good causes out of his own good nature.

Because of his incomparable work ethic, expert insight into the American Zeitgeist and extraordinary ability to craft a cultural phenomenon from his seemingly limitless imagination we, his fans are able to see the outward product that never fails to deliver.
