For over twenty years a popular British daytime television property-buying/real estate programme has been giving us a glimpse of an ideal home in which couples are introduced to a variety of properties each with differing value. They must make a decision by the end of the programme as the presenter has already guided them through the homes in a smooth transition that sees them impressed by the overall lay out of the houses in question.
‘Escape to the Country’ - does exactly what it says on the tin. A sheer escapism from the everyday life. It’s had a series of presenters since 2002 and a couple of spin off shows. It remains an ideal watch with a cup of tea and biscuit.
Usually, the presenter will highlight the history of the property placing a large value on it’s heritage and what this equates to in the modern era. This month’s ‘Buildings of Distinction’ is Plantation House (Clinkhill Plantation) Bawburgh – Norwich – Norfolk.
The main property [Plantation House] was built on the Clinkhill site in the early 1960s and the design of this unique property was influenced by the renowned Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen. Check out the following website link to discover more about Jacobsen- https://arnejacobsen.com/
Entering the house it has an apparent 1960s feel to it with an open plan kitchen, dining area and sunken living room. It sparked the imagination of local University students and architects had a curious eye for it’s original mid -20th century appeal. Plantation house is accessed through double wrought iron gates leading onto the private driveway winding between mature oak trees.
Please watch this four minute silent film which guides you through the house -
Mature woodland encompasses the exterior of the property in which a secluded patio area builds in a large water feature. To the rear of Plantation House there is a large patio area with seating and a mature wildlife pond with fish and a cascading water feature.
On the back of the house is a Conservatory that leads off the main dining area .This unique, detached gated property sits in approximately 4 acres of gardens and mature woodland.
As seen in the film the open plan kitchen has a range of units and cupboards specially designed to create a separate dining area by a breakfast bar. Whilst enjoying your breakfast you can take in the spectacular views of the Bawburgh fishing lakes and the mature wildlife pond located at the end of the patio area. Popular host Jules Hudson is taking a break from the daytime programme to explore something new in his presenting career.
Plantation House film is very much guided through in the similar vein to the BBC show. Highlighting the very distinct areas that make it so unique and original.
