Free creative workshops for Preston people to help those out of lockdown

Mar, 22 2021

Culture. It’s something that may have been neglected throughout the pandemic. If you seek out such pursuits you would have been frustrated by the absence of theatres, cinemas and art galleries. Or perhaps you are an artist yourself and you’ve found it increasingly difficult to battle with the isolation and the lack of opportunities to display your work.

Thankfully, ‘The Living City’ project, produced by They Eat Culture in Preston have organised a series of online creative wellbeing workshops led by artists including award-winning poet Louise Fazackerley.

The workshops will run until the end of April and will allow interested ones to experience creative roles including the following:-
  • Illustration
  • Doodling
  • Journaling
  • Photography
  • Writing
Participants will experience great  encouragement and support from a wide variety of friendly, talented and experienced artists.

The work will encompass The Living City’s online exhibition which will reflect memories, concerns and hopes of local people during this time of change.

It will be free for Preston postcode residents with some workshops catering for all and others aimed primarily for mums of children under two, carers and people suffering anxiety.

They Eat Culture director Ruth Heritage explains the concept of the programme,

“ We wanted to give people the opportunity to meet people who perhaps have faced similar challenges during the pandemic, share their stories of their ups and downs and to explore experience, hopes and emotions in creative ways.

Our artists have devised workshops and resources that give something to everyone: those aged 14+ can tackle them solo, families with young children can have a go together and ‘try-this’ activities will make you think in different ways.”

The previous project, entitled ‘The Voices’ saw Preston people discussing their experience of the pandemic which included their thoughts on how to build a better life with work, rest and play.

Ruth concludes with these words of encouragement for anyone unsure about taking part,

“If you’re a beginner you’ll learn something new, and if you come with experience we hope you’ll take away new ideas and activities to explore your creativity!”
