Essential Funds Help Street Pastors Across Preston and South Ribble

Jan, 26 2021

Pre pandemic era Preston city centre on a Friday, Saturday or even Sunday was en masse with several revellers partying into the early hours. But this level of hedonism was carefully monitored by a series of street pastors. People who give up their time in order to look after the young generation who could be in a dire state.

Now thanks to the Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw a sum total of over £45,000 has been awarded to organisations who support vulnerable people across Lancashire.

Five groups successfully applied to the fund which include:- street pastors, street angels and similar organisations.

Preston and South Ribble Street Pastors were given £12,000. The fortunate ones who are in receipt of this fund include trained volunteers who monitor the activities of the streets, supporting the homeless and other vulnerable ones.

This excellent resource will be used by these specialised groups to help them train and equip new volunteers, up skill current volunteers and fund needed items such as food and drink to give to those most at risk.

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw expressed his appreciation for the good work the street pastors do,

“ Over the last twelve months more than ever, we have seen the positive impact that volunteers have  across our community through the work they do and the time they give up, giving support to those who need it. By offering support and advice, they help resolve potential incidents before they require police officers or paramedics, reducing the need for frontline services to intervene”.

These kind hearted volunteers provide an essential lifeline to those living on the streets. The volunteers give them the confidence and courage to seek additional help after  they have become more familiar with a specific person or group.
