Preston - Bolton for Takeaway Meal - Resulting in a fine for all four involved

Jan, 18 2021

It may seem like an innocent thing to do but during this pandemic we have been told to not make unnecessary journeys. In this particular incident the people involved should have got a takeaway meal closer to home.

When the Greater Manchester Police stopped to help a broken down vehicle on Friday they discovered four individuals who had travelled from Preston to Bolton to purchase food. The police immediately fined them and sent them on their way.

This is not an isolated story. Just this weekend 110 fixed penalty notices were handed out to those breaking COVID-19 rules and regulations.

The following statistics reveal the activities of those who possibly regard the pandemic as a ‘myth’ and ‘fable’:-
  • More than 40 people attended a flat party in Cheetham Hill
  • 30 people were at a gathering in Salford overnight
  • 16 fines were also handed out after a party in Hulme.
Chief Inspector Carol Martin expressed her annoyance at the above figures:-

“It is incredibly frustrating that there is a minority who think they are above the law. Not only are they putting their own lives and those of their loved ones at stake, they also risk undoing the hard work of everyone else continuing to make the necessary sacrifices at this time.”

At the beginning of January the UK entered the third national lockdown. The rules have been simple and clear right from day one. You must not meet indoors with family or friends socially unless they are part of your household or support bubble. If you do you will be committing an illegal act and you will be fined a considerable amount of money.

Greater Manchester Police gave a statement which revealed that about 2,600 fines for breaches of coronavirus rules since August. People are not paying attention to the seriousness of the situation. You only have to hear or see reports to realise that lives are being lost in a sadly untimely way and if the majority of us play our part in conforming to the rules lives will be saved and we can sooner return to a level of normality.
