New Open Exhibition - 'Preston on a Postcard' -Showing in The Larder cafe

Dec, 7 2020

This time last year we were preparing to leave the E.U. Life appeared relatively normal and predictable. That was, until the COVID-19 pandemic arrived.

A lot of places have been hit hard this year, cafes and art houses in particular. As you were walking through Preston city centre with your mask on and your vigilant attitude did you ever stop for a moment and glance at the café shop windows to pause and consider what was exhibited?

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Larder in Lancaster Road had a schedule of rolling four-week exhibitions for the whole of 2020 and into 2021.

Like many places they have had to accommodate to the changing circumstances and they have displayed window exhibitions for the interested public. Three have been shown this year, they include:-
  • The Cold War Steve International Exhibition of the People  - Garry Cook
  • Local photographer John Robertson’s Marginal Images,
  • Preston Black History Group for Black History Month.
In November the windows were filled with site specific art created for The Larder by internationally-renowned local artist Anthony Padgett.

Victoria Dyer from The Larder explains the transition to window exhibitions,

“As the cafe is currently not open, we decided to stage exhibitions in the windows. This keeps art available to people passing by, and provides local artists and photographers with an opportunity to exhibit during these difficult times. Conditions in the window can be a bit tricky what with direct sunlight and condensation, so displaying original and valuable artwork is not really going to happen. Photographic prints and prints of original artwork work very well in these conditions, especially if they are laminated.

Now a new open exhibition entitled ‘Preston on a Postcard’ is decorating the windows of The Larder.

Anyone can submit their images of Preston at a low cost allowing exhibiting accessible to all.

Established local photographer Fran Atkinson expressed her joy about being able to show her collection of work,

“I feel privileged to be able to showcase my pet and wedding photography at The Larder. It has given myself and local creatives a fabulous opportunity to celebrate all things about Preston.”

As well as Fran’s work, the following photographers will also have their images shared for the general public:-
  • Lisa Brown
  • Sky Eye
  • Martin Saunders
  • Jack Harkins
  • John Robertson
  • Chris Darley
  • Daniel Sharples
  • David Robinson
  • Mark Roberts
  • Anthony Padgett
  • Tony Worrall
  • Paul Melling
  • Victoria Dyer
If anyone wishes to enquire about purchasing work from any of the above artists, a short biography and contact details will be included on the image for you to follow up interest.

Submissions to the Preston on a Postcard exhibition of up to ten 4-inch x 6-inch sized images can still be made.
