Penwortham Artist Turns Crisis Into Creative Venture

Penwortham Artist Turns Crisis Into Creative Venture

May, 27 2020

If you’re a creative person you’ll see the current situation as an opportunity to focus on a project which will reflect the mood of the country.
Penwortham based Shiryn Wynter is a local artist who has somewhat capitalised on the crisis and turned it into a positive piece of modern art.

Shiryn is encouraging people to send in views  from their homes or local daily walks, and is painting a selection of submissions.

With over a thousand followers on Facebook, she speaks candidly about her community engaging work,

“I decided to create a project that the community could get involved with.
I’m inviting members of the public to send me their lockdown views; they could be an urban scene, or of the country, beach or anywhere.”

Shiryn has already  been inundated with a vast selection of images and she is aiming  to pick a variety of work from the very scenic local views to  the more humdrum, limited window views.

She continues by explaining her unique take on lockdown as a local artist,

“I am an abstract artist so although I take my inspiration from the images they are not an exact representation of the picture. My job is to create something different, something that hopefully inspires, and makes you feel a certain way.

The paintings will be uploaded onto her Facebook page with sufficient work to take her through to July in which a competition will be available for the public to vote for their favourite lockdown view. The winner will receive the painting. This will all culminate in an exhibition at the Pavilion Café in Avenham Park once lockdown is over.

Shiryn, who is currently studying an MA in Fine Art at UCLAN, began the project after members of the public praised her work for the positive impact it has had on their mental wellbeing during difficult times.

She shares these words of optimism for any aspiring artist who may be experiencing some form of mental health,
“I am a great believer that visual art can improve mental health, and I strive to create uplifting art.”
