The Harris To Close In Response To Coronavirus Advice

~It’s a much loved building for the younger generation as it is for the older ones. It plays host to live music and has interactive sessions for children. Continuous exhibitions make it as relevant as it was when it was first commissioned in 1877 by it’s founder Edmund Harris.

Sadly, however the Preston Harris Museum and Art Gallery is another sector of the cultural framework of the city that has had to temporarily close down due to the Corona virus outbreak.

The closure will take into effect from today ( Friday 20th March) yet organisers have made readily made  available artwork to be viewed online via virtual tours on the new Harris website

Cabinet member for culture and leisure, Councillor Peter Kelly, expressed these words of concerns following the news and has reassured the public during this period,

“These are unprecedented times. As a council we are stringently following Government and public health guidance and have not made these decisions lightly. We all have a responsibility to follow advice to minimise the risks associated with the Covid-19 virus and these temporary closures allow our visitors, along with our colleagues, to maintain social distancing. Staff at the council will continue to work in providing essential services to the residents of Preston, but we ask for your patience and understanding while we try our best to carry on as much as possible.”

Please note- the general public will also need to be aware that the  Reception desk at the Town Hall and the Preston City Council-run Pavilion Café in Avenham Park will also close to visitors until further notice.
