Popular Young People’s Literary Festival Returning To Preston

Feb, 28 2020

~For an adult to get along in this world a good vocabulary is needed. This can be learnt at a young age so that when they reach their teenage years  they will be able to communicate well when going, for example, at a job interview.

This good knowledge of words and the English language can be appreciated by an awareness of, and introduction into reading books.

The Northern Young Adult Literary Festival (NYALitFest) is organised and hosted by the University of Central Lancashire’s award-winning UCLan Publishing House. The event is returning for its third year, with the addition of KIDSLitFest, a day dedicated to children’s books.

Last year’s event was a massive success, with 500 young book fans in attendance with the central theme mental health and inclusivity.

It’s an ideal opportunity to play host to authors, publishers and other industry experts accompanied with readers and young writers in the only event of its kind in the north of England.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March on UCLAN’S  Preston Campus.

Over the two day period you can expect the following:-

  • Workshops
  • Advice panels
  • Q&As
  • Book signings

Among the big name authors who will be in attendance are Juno Dawson and Holly Bourne.

In addition, teachers and librarians are invited to a special evening on Friday March 20th. The theme is ‘Voices’ and attendees will hear from publishers including the following Bloomsbury, Faber, Scholastic, Walker, Barrington Stoke, Chicken House and Bounce.

The Northern Young Adult Literary Festival and the new KIDSLitFest concentrates on children’s and young adults’ literature. The feedback from the south of England shows their acknowledgement  of such an excellent northern event.
Organiser Hazel Holmes, from UCLAN  Publishing reveals the links available and the positive orators for the weekend:-

“NYA and KIDSLitFest gives young readers, teachers and librarians direct access to authors, publishers and writing development workshops, otherwise unreachable. We’re thrilled to have so many fantastic speakers on out programme.”
