Darwin Day - UCLAN - 7-8.30pm- 27/02/20
Feb, 25 2020
~Do you remember when your teenage son or daughter was a child and they refused to eat certain foods? Due to minimal vocabulary they probably used their hands to swipe away the incoming food on a spoon from mum or dad.
Now they are adults they have a more comprehensive way of telling someone when they don’t like a specific meal.
They will be aware of cognitive restraints, a mind control over food intake in order to lose or maintain weight, which leads to harmful consequences in individuals suffering from overweight or obesity.
Dorothy Bishop is Professor of Developmental Neuropsychology in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society, and an expert on children’s communication and language who pioneered the study of twins to identify genetic influences.
On Thursday 27th February she will be delivering a talk entitled
“Are Human Brains Wired Up to Do Science? How Cognitive Constraints Can Lead Us Astray in Research.”
It is part of the Darwin Day Celebration Lecture 2020 and will take place at UCLAN’S Darwin Building, Darwin Lecture Theatre, Marsh Lane, Preston between the hours of 7pm -8.30pm. Free refreshments are available from 6.00pm
Tickets are available via the following website address:-
