Damson Poets- The Continental - Preston - 7.30pm - 9.30pm - 26/02/20

Feb, 21 2020

~Were you the inquisitive young child who always asked your parents what a word means when it was discussed at the dinner table? If so you probably grew up to have a love of words and the English language. You may not have read an excessive amount of books but your knowledge was sufficient enough to enable you to create poetry.

As an adult you may have attended several book launches or open mic nights. The open mic nights would have provided you with a viable platform to perform your poetry to an appreciative audience.

You’ve tried and tested several but they don’t seem fitting both for your style and performance technique.

Damson Poets is a monthly open mic night that takes place on the last Wednesday of every month. It takes place at The Continental on South Meadow Lane, Preston. The next one is scheduled to take place next Wednesday 26th February from 7.30pm - 9.30pm. Entrance is free just come with a literacy outlook and an open mind.

This month’s guest readers are Jennifer Lee Tsai and Lorna Smithers.

Jennifer was born in Bebington and grew up in Liverpool. She is a fellow of The Complete Works III and a Ledbury Poetry Critic. Her poems are featured in the anthologies:-

  • Ten: Poets of the New Generation (Bloodaxe: 2017)
  •  Islands Are But Mountains: New Poetry from the UK (Platypus Press, 2019)

Her work has been published in numerous magazines and journals including:- Oxford Poetry, The Rialto, SMOKE, Soundings, Ambit, Wild Court and Magma.

Lorna is a founder member of Damson Poets and lives in Penwortham. She is the author of three books and her work has appeared in :-

  • The Dawntreader
  • Eternal Haunted Summer
  • Moon Poets
  • Heroic Fantasy Quarterly,
  • New Myths
  • Plus various anthologies.

She is also a co-founder of Awen ac Awenydd and writes for Gods & Radicals. Her popular blog ‘From Peneverdant’ is used by the Lancashire Post for articles on local history.

The evening will take place in the Snug and those who wish to perform must arrive early so as to get your name down and each person has a maximum slot of five minutes per performance.

Enjoy a cultural evening of local writers performing their work:-
