Phil Parramore
Lancashire Creative Commonwealth Association Director of Public Participation and Consultation.
With current and lived experience of being a Social Housing Tenant in Preston, Lancashire, since 2014, I have first-hand experience of some of the social challenges that communities face and am doing my bit to try and help resolve some of them.
Directing Plan-It-ESG I help businesses, social enterprises and charities with business coaching, planning and project management services across a range of Environmental, Social Value and Governance themes.
I strongly believe that people and communities are the ones that understand their problems and challenges and need to be involved in considering them and leading and developing the solutions.
For example, I take the view that being mentally or physically active should promote experiences of positive wellbeing, including improved self-esteem, motivation, improved general and mental health, and reduced psychological distress. By encouraging people to participate in activities, volunteer, enter employment or work for themselves together we can improve the quality of life for so many, leading to better health outcomes for individuals across the population.
Anchor institutions can and should have a role to play to support such resolutions, including through research, skills support and financial backing.
I'm Patron of The Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Support Group, which provides support, education and awareness for those dealing with head and neck cancers - whether that be for patients, caregivers or health professionals. Find out more at The Swallows Head & Neck Cancer Support Group. My role is primarily to seek out additional funding for the charity, especially through appealing to business’ social responsibility values.
In times of economic stress, I am also ambitious to support individuals and organisations to reduce huge energy bills and aim towards net zero carbon, especially through advocacy of renewable energy solutions. Optimising use of key renewable energy sources, especially solar and wind are vital resources if we are to hit decarbonisation; and the supporting technology, such as solar panels, wind turbines, biomass boilers, heat pumps and Electric Vehicle Charging Points are increasingly essential parts of our infrastructure. I’m a member of Community Energy Preston, whose aim is to develop locally owned, renewable energy in Preston and the wider North West of England.
I'm also chair of the board at Community Gateway Association, a social and affordable homes provider of around 7000 homes. My role is to lead the board, which holds the executive team to account for the performance of the organisation.
I have previously had active roles in Creative Communities Group activities throughout the calendar, most notably volunteer co-ordinator for Health Melas in Preston and Leyland National Forum for Health and Wellbeing and providing organisational support for building the CCG membership. As well as attending events, such as UCLan’s Diversity Festival and One Billion Rising.
