Preston Dad Releases Book Inspired By Daughter
Dec, 6 2019
~Inspirations for creativity can come in a variety of ways. It could be a recent film that has channelled your artistic persuasions. It maybe a life experience which has matured you and given you a new perspective on the world around you. But perhaps one of the most unlikeliest inspirations for creativity will come for your very own child.
Preston based Chris Bilsborough was feeling relaxed having put his daughter, Lucy, to bed and was about to have his evening meal. His meal was interrupted however, when Lucy hollered out the words, ‘ ‘Daddy! I need you!’. These words imprinted on Chris and it became the concept of a children’s book he has now got published!
Chris speaks about how his daughter became the inspiration of his book,
“It’s obviously a very similar story in every household at bedtime, with children of an age where their imaginations create shapes out of shadows and monsters under the bed and will try every trick in the book to get an adult to come back to their room.
Those four little words boomed downstairs for months to come, and one day a few lines of the book came to me so I jotted them down and laid a foundation for the book.”
Chris lives in Walton le Dale and works for the NHS as a Technical Change Analyst. His initial idea was to read it to his children but friends and family encouraged him to get it published. After 12 months submitting it to a series of publishers, Chris received no response despite the positive feedback. It wasn’t until he stumbled across Olympia where his fortunate changed.
1 month later an email appeared which read the following:-
‘I’m pleased to inform you that your work has passed our initial review’.
A year of hard graft continued which saw him work on illustrative and editorial work. A release date was then announced for 28th November 2019.
Chris reveals the publicity side and how he can make his children happy this festive period,
“A lot of promotion is taking place by the team at Olympia, and there’s mention of library readings taking place and working with local book suppliers and media outlets.
“Right now I’m just happy that I’ve got this far with my little book and excited that it has come out just in time to be a surprise stocking filler for Lucy this Christmas.”
