~Singing for fun these days is usually spent on a Friday or Saturday night at your local pub. But for the more sophisticated amongst us we’ll be looking for a choral group that selects culturally minded songs to sing to an appreciative audience.

Preston Orpheus Choir could be just what you’re looking for. It was founded in 1929 and comprises of mixed ages and abilities from 18 -80 with a total of 40 keen singers.

Each and every Tuesday the choir meets to practise from 7.30pm - 9.30pm at St. Andrew’s CE Primary School in Tulketh Road, and performs three concerts per year.

In honour of it’s 90th year, the choir is offering potential new members the chance to try three sessions for free. Choir member Mick Gardner expresses these words of inclusion and the offer available,

“We are always happy to welcome new members. Singing is not only good fun, it’s also been proved to be good for physical and mental wellbeing. Before committing to joining the choir, people can use the ‘3 for free’ offer to come along to three rehearsals, free of charge, to decide if it’s for them or not.”

You can watch the choir taking on Fulwood Methodist Church in Watling Street Road on Saturday 2nd November at 7.30pm. They will be performing a series of classical numbers from the past 90 years including :-

  • Vivaldi
  •  Mozart
  •  Handel
  •  Gershwin
  •  Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Admission is £12 and under 18s go free. Please note :-there’s no need to book. For more details about the choir, see the Preston Orpheus Choir website.
