The Rotary Club Of Leyland Health Mela will take place the 13th September in Leyland, Lancashire, a community of 37,000 inhabitants. It is designed to promote health awareness and address potential health problems in a typical mixed community. These include diabetes and high cholesterol, smoking, and alcohol abuse, age related problems; falls prevention, sight, hearing etc. There is also a clear focus on youth engagement aiming to develop personal commitments to healthy living. The event is unique in blending the enthusiasms, skills and expertise of NHS organisations, voluntary bodies and individuals in a non-threatening fun-filled atmosphere, promoting a real sense of ownership of personal and community health. The Mela provides an enjoyable and thought provoking visit for the family. It includes stalls with advice and information, activities and competitions for children, a full health MOT, expert advice and counselling, taster workshops in complementary medicine and a variety of entertainments and refreshments.
