Brief Encounter - Preston Flag Market - 6pm - 10pm - 20/9/19
Sep, 20 2019
~Preston city centre during the day is quite a bland, ordinary looking place. There is little that can attract and impress local people. During the evening, little is left to the imagination as revellers take over the city. But,for just a short period of time could something shake up Lancashire’s usual state of affairs?
Lancashire Encounter returns next September 2020, in the meantime however Brief Encounter (it’s mini counterpart) is back tonight. It all takes place on Preston’s Flag Market from 6pm -10pm Friday 20th September in a series of three impressive installations.
- Chorus - Developed by artist Ray Lee this kinetic sound sculpture will include loudspeakers, hypnotic sirens and mesmerising orbits of colour.
- Shimmer Tree - Created by Dan Fox and displayed under the Covered Market. This includes a 12 channel sound system, super bright LEDs which create dynamic patterns and colours.
- Pendulum Wave Machine - Designed by Travellig Light Circus and includes twenty steels balls floating, becoming a harmonious wave of beauty which dissolve into chaos.
Councillor Peter Kelly, Cabinet member for culture and leisure expressed these words about both events and the appreciation of the creativity expected to appear this evening:-
“Brief Encounter and Lancashire Encounter have become established arts and performance festivals in Preston over the last few years. They are a brilliant way to recreate the fantastic buzz in the city centre that comes from Preston Guild – without having to wait 20 years! This year is no exception, and the artists bringing their installations to the city will amaze and delight visitors with their creative talents.”

The full Lancashire Encounter weekend will return next year from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September 2020.
Preston is going to be seen in a whole new way :-
A marvel during daylight, more mysterious when seen at night.
