~On July 13th 1985 a transatlantic rock concert that hit the shores across Philadelphia, Pennysylvania and London brought both tears and joy to the millions that were fortunate to be there and for those watching at home.

Live Aid was the most poignant  event in music history. In total it raised over £50,000,000 for famine relief in Ethiopia and projects are still going on to this day.

One band that didn’t perform  but perhaps were watching in the shadows were Guns and Roses.

The American hard rock band from Los Angeles, California were formed at the dawn of Live Aid, 1985. Following their signing to Geffen Records in 1986 the band comprised of the classic line - up :-

  • Vocalist Axl Rose
  •  Lead guitarist Slash
  •  Rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin
  •  Bassist Duff McKagan
  •  Drummer Steven Adler

Their debut album followed in 1987 ‘Appetite For Destruction’ and featured three of their best known songs :- "Welcome to the Jungle", "Paradise City", and "Sweet Child o' Mine"

By 1993 the band parted ways with guitarist Slash and bassist McKagan. As the late 90’s progressed rumours of a new album were just mere words until the long awaited sixth record was released in 2008 “Chinese Democracy’.

 Despite band changes and album delays the group could really pull off a live show and if fans have been disappointed with their lack of live performances recently then they’re in for a treat.

The Guns ‘N’ Roses Experience is the next best thing. This excellent tribute act are performing at The New Continental, South Meadow Lane, Preston on Friday 23rd August at 8pm.
