Classic Album Night 11 - New Continental - 8pm -22/8/19

~In 1970 a London based rock band was formed. They infused sounds of progressive rock, rock opera and contemporary pop rock. They had their audience in the palm of their hands not because of Brian’s solo guitar riffs or John’s cool bass lines or even Roger’s rhythmic drumming it was because of their charismatic front man the late great Freddie Mercury.

Queen spent most of the 70’s promoting early album success such as Queen, Queen 2, Sheer Heart Attack and the critically acclaimed Night at the Opera. It was however their 1977 album ‘News of The World’ which gave them two stadium rock numbers ‘We will Rock You’ and We are the Champions’.

On Thursday August 22nd 2019 The New Continental on South Meadow Lane, Preston is hosting a classic album night and Queen’s ‘News of the World’ will be played in full. It marks the eleventh classic album night and interested ones should make their way to The Snug area for an 8pm start. Entrance is free.

The joy in attending a classic album night is knowing you will experience a high quality sound on vinyl provided by Richer Sounds. The records are kindly contributed from Action Records in Preston. You can also bring your own records too!

In 1985 Queen made rock history by performing at Live Aid. Following their performance their back catalogue climbed back up the charts and made everyone remember what a fantastic band they were.

Here are the top ten previous classic album nights:-

  1. David Bowie - Hunky Dory
  2. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
  3. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
  4. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
  5. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
  6. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
  7. Nirvana - Nevermind
  8. Jeff Wayne - War of the Worlds
  9. The Clash - London Calling
  10. ELO - Out of the Blue

Queen still perform to this day under the moniker Queen + which has seen Paul Rodgers as front man and now Adam Lambert takes on Mercury’s role.

In 2018, they were  presented the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
