~Have you ever been in a  foreign country and experienced the excellent evening entertainment as you sit outside a restaurant, dining and enjoying time with your friends and family?

Most of you probably have. But there’s something quite unique about an Afro - Brazilian Afoxe piece. The instrument means ‘this is who I am’ and the people of Brazil perform an initial acapella piece then everyone else contributes to some really engaging and uplifting music.

So, does this mean you have to go to Brazil to experience this? Not at all. On Wednesday 11th September Afoxe with the Worldwise Samba Drummers are coming to UCLAN between the hours of 6pm -8pm. It will be based at UCLAN’s Media Factory Room 035.

Here is a brief summary of what you can expect as you perform :-

  • They are open to anyone regardless of experience or ability
  • Accomplished musicians will teach you the percussion patterns of an Afro-Brazilian Afoxe piece.
  • Time will  be spent on learning and practising how to play the instruments of the samba band.

To attend you must pay £3 entrance fee but no booking is required. Please note :- children MUST be accompanied throughout by a responsible adult.

The Worldwise Samba Drummers are a community group who play high-energy music inspired by the samba and candomblé music of Brazil. They meet every Wednesday in the Media Factory, regularly perform around Lancashire, and will be celebrating their 10 year as a group in October.

By attending this event, you’ll be showing your appreciation of local activities in the community and boosting both your performance technique and your interaction with other musicians:-
